MOTUS-EMINA

Motus Ensemble

Formed originally in 2021, with Annamaria Deiana (vocals) and Fabio Coronas (guitar, winds, percussion, bandoneon, vocals), Motus Ensemble aimed at creating a dialogue between Sardinian tradition and contemporaneity.

In 2025 Motus Ensemble settled with Omar Bandinu (piano and vocals), Sebastiano Dessanay (double bass), Carlo Sezzi (drums and vocals), Marco Santolisier (narrator).

In October 2025, Motus premiered their first project Emina, an act of love for Sardinian identity and its language. Motus translated the poetic language of poet Montanaru (Desulo, 1878–1957) into original compositions, celebrating an author who made the Sardinian language a banner of freedom. The choice of the poet from Desulo carries a strong historical value: Montanaru chose to endure censorship under the Fascist regime rather than renounce his native idiom, which he considered the only instrument capable of conveying the deepest soul of his people.

The performance of Emina traces the female figures that inhabit Montanaru’s poetic universe: from pure maidens to upright mothers and wives, from tireless weavers to the most rebellious and proud figures. On stage, the portrait of a woman “strong as a holm oak” comes to life—a steady guide capable of lighting the way like a beacon in the night—told through a refined fusion of music and narrated word.
